About the Opportunity
We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Operator/Driver to join our Maintenance team based in Timaru. This hands-on role involves driving trucks & operating plant, carrying out routine and reactive road maintenance tasks, and supporting crews to maintain safe, efficient and resilient transport networks for local communities. The successful candidate will work closely with supervisors, contractors, traffic management personnel and other team members to deliver high-quality outcomes while following health, safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and maintain company trucks, vehicles and road maintenance plant (e.g. chip spreaders, pothole patching units, rollers, tip trucks and other vehicles) safely and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and company procedures.
Carry out maintenance tasks such as pothole repairs, shoulder reinstatement, signage installation, drainage clearing and vegetation control to maintain safe road corridors.
Load, transport and unload materials, aggregate and equipment between depots and worksites; ensure loads are secured and vehicle checks are completed prior to departure.
Work collaboratively with crew members, contractors and stakeholders to deliver projects to agreed standards, timeframes and contractual requirements.
Adhere to all health, safety and environmental policies; participate in toolbox talks, site inductions and training activities to promote a positive safety culture.
Skills & Experience – What You’ll Bring
Current and valid New Zealand driver licence (Class 4) WTR endorsement desirable.
Proven experience operating plant and driving in a road maintenance or civil construction environment is preferred.
Be available for rostered on-call duties for network incidents or emergency events.
Ability to follow traffic management plans and work safely within live traffic environments.
Strong practical skills, reliability, and a solution-focused attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused outcomes for local communities.
