About the Role
We are seeking a reliable Drainage Apprentice to join our Tauranga team on a permanent basis. This hands-on apprenticeship will provide structured on‑the‑job training and practical experience in drainage installation, maintenance and civil site works across the Bay of Plenty. The successful applicant will work closely with experienced operatives and supervisors to learn safe working practices, plant operation assistance, excavation, pipe laying, manhole construction and associated civil tasks.

RZG Construction, now part of the Isaac Group, is a growing civil construction company based in Tauranga. The team delivers complex infrastructure projects across the Bay of Plenty, specialising in structures, Three Waters, drainage and land development, with a strong focus on quality, collaboration and safe project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with installation and maintenance of stormwater and wastewater drainage systems, including excavation, bedding, laying pipes, jointing, backfilling and reinstatement to specification.
Support plant operators and crew on site, including operating hand tools and basic site machinery under supervision.
Follow site instructions, read and learn to interpret basic drawings and levels, and carry out work to specified quality standards.
Adhere to site health, safety and environmental requirements; participate in toolbox talks, identify hazards and report incidents or near misses.
Engage in formal apprenticeship training and on‑the‑job assessments as directed to gain relevant unit standards and qualifications.
Skills & Experience
Some practical experience or exposure to civil construction, drainage or landscaping is desirable but not essential; we welcome applications from those keen to start an apprenticeship.
Demonstrated commitment to health and safety, with a willingness to learn and follow safe working practices.
Good communication and teamwork skills, a reliable work ethic and a proactive attitude to learning and problem solving.
Current New Zealand Class 1 driver licence (or learner licence) is essential; willingness to obtain WTR and higher licences during employment is required.
Legal right to work in New Zealand.
