About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and organised Project Manager to join our Dunedin team. This hands-on, site-focused role will manage delivery of civil construction projects across the Otago region, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time and to specification. The role involves coordinating project teams and subcontractors, monitoring progress and budgets, managing client and stakeholder relationships, and driving continuous improvement in delivery and safety performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, programme and manage civil construction projects from mobilisation to completion, ensuring delivery meets scope, quality, time and budget requirements.
Coordinate crews, subcontractors and suppliers; supervise site activities and ensure resources are available to meet programme milestones.
Prepare, review and manage contract documentation including variations, progress claims, meeting minutes and site instructions.
Monitor project performance and costs; maintain accurate records, produce regular reports and escalate issues or risks promptly.
Ensure compliance with engineering specifications, quality standards and regulatory requirements; verify completed works meet acceptance criteria.
Lead and promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture on site; deliver toolbox talks, complete hazard assessments and ensure control measures are in place.
Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, consultants, stakeholders and internal teams; communicate progress, risks and programme changes clearly and proactively.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute to lessons learned and best-practice sharing across the business.
What you will bring:
5 yrs plus - Proven experience managing civil construction projects or similar delivery roles.
Practical knowledge of civil construction methods, contract management and site supervision.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan programmes, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to lead site teams and manage client expectations.
Commercially aware with experience managing project budgets, variations and progress claims.
A proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks, with sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Committed to health, safety and environmental standards and experienced in promoting a positive safety culture on site.
Current and valid New Zealand Class 1 driver’s licence.
Right to work in New Zealand.
