About the Role
We are seeking a reliable experienced Drainage Labourer or Apprentice Drainlayer to join our Dunedin team on a permanent basis. This practical, hands-on role supports civil works and drainage renewals across the Otago region. The successful applicant will assist with installation, repair and maintenance of stormwater and drainage systems, perform general site duties and work closely with site crews to ensure projects are completed safely, to specification and on time.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the excavation, installation and backfilling of drainage pipes, culverts, soakage pits and associated structures in accordance with site specifications.
Prepare and set up trenches, bedding and pipelines, and ensure correct alignment and grading under supervision.
Support plant operators during drain and pipe works, including guiding excavator operators, traffic management assistance and material handling.
Carry out remedial drainage repairs, clearing of culverts and stormwater outlets, and routine maintenance tasks as required.
Follow safe work practices, participate in toolbox talks, identify hazards and report incidents or near misses in line with company procedures.
Maintain site cleanliness and ensure tools, equipment and materials are stored safely at the end of each shift.
Work cooperatively with team members, subcontractors and other stakeholders to achieve programme targets and maintain a positive site culture.
Skills & Experience
Previous experience in drainage, civil construction or related site labouring roles is preferred.
Strong commitment to Health & Safety with knowledge of safe work practices and experience participating in site safety systems.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and read basic site drawings.
Good physical fitness, able to work outdoors in varying weather and undertake manual handling tasks.
Current New Zealand Class 1 driver licence is required; WTR, Class 2 is advantageous.
Legal right to work in New Zealand.
