About the Opportunity – Fixed Term (18 months) - Quantity Surveyor in Construction & Civil Projects

We are seeking a driven and detail-focused Quantity Surveyor to join our inclusive team, based in Nelson, New Zealand. Key Responsibilities – Quantity Surveying, Cost Control & Project Support
- Prepare, manage, and track accurate cost plans, estimates, and budgets across all project stages in construction and civil works.
- Measure and value works undertaken, including materials, labour, and subcontractor inputs, to ensure best value for our clients and the business.
- Analyse project specifications, drawings, and contracts, identifying scope, risks, and opportunities for commercial improvement.
- Manage progress claims, variations, reconciliations, and final accounts in collaboration with the project team and external stakeholders.
- Support tender processes through quantity take-offs, pricing, and supplier/subcontractor engagement.
- Maintain detailed and organised project records, supporting compliance and audit requirements.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to inform cost decisions and improve project outcomes.
Essential Skills & Experience – Quantity Surveying, Construction, Commercial Acumen
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor, or in a similar commercial role, within the civil construction sector in New Zealand is essential.
- Tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management or related fields is highly valued.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities, with a commitment to accuracy and detail.
- Excellent communication skills – able to collaborate with diverse teams and negotiate effectively with suppliers and subcontractors.
- In-depth knowledge of horizontal civil construction methods, materials, processes and New Zealand standards.
- Familiarity with cost management and estimation software (e.g., Candy, Benchmark or similar) is highly regarded.
- Organised and able to prioritise workload in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
