About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced drainage operator looking for a permanent role in Christchurch?
We are seeking a Drainage Operator to join our civil construction team. This role supports the delivery of stormwater, sewer and drainage infrastructure projects across the Canterbury region, operating drainage-specific plant and equipment to achieve safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes for our clients and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and maintain drainage plant and equipment safely and competently, including combination units, jetting trucks, vacuum trucks, winches, excavators and associated attachments in accordance with manufacturer and company requirements.
Complete pre-start checks, routine maintenance and defect reporting to ensure plant is fit for purpose and available for planned works.
Carry out drainage tasks such as pipe laying, trenching, pit installation, rodding, jetting, CCTV inspection assistance, backfilling and reinstatement to meet project specifications and drawings.
Follow confined space procedures and operate safely in pits, trenches and tanking works; use appropriate PPE and safety equipment at all times.
Work closely with site supervisors, traffic management crews and other team members to sequence works, support traffic controls and ensure efficient site progress.
Report on work progress, site hazards and environmental controls; contribute to continuous improvement through safety observations and feedback.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture and demonstrate flexibility to support varied project requirements across the region.
Skills & Experience – What You’ll Bring
Proven experience operating drainage and civil construction plant on stormwater, sewer or utilities projects.
Relevant plant licences/endorsements and any industry tickets related to vacuum/jetting or confined space work.
Sound understanding of site safety practices, including confined space entry, traffic management principles and environmental protection measures.
Ability to read and work from basic plans and instructions; competent communication and teamwork skills.
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Valid New Zealand driver’s licence and the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
