About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced construction foreperson seeking a permanent role in Christchurch?
We are looking for a Construction Foreman to join our civil construction team. This role will lead on-site activities to deliver a range of infrastructure projects across the Canterbury region, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes for our clients and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise site crews to safely deliver day-to-day construction activities, including earthworks, trenching, pipe laying, backfilling, compaction and reinstatement in accordance with project specifications and drawings.
Plan, programme and sequence works in collaboration with site supervisors, project managers and subcontractors to achieve programme and quality targets.
Operate and coordinate plant and machinery as required, and ensure operators complete pre-start checks, routine maintenance and defect reporting so equipment is fit for purpose.
Implement and enforce site safety systems, including confined space procedures, traffic management arrangements, environmental controls and appropriate use of PPE.
Carry out quality inspections, monitor workmanship against drawings and specifications, and coordinate corrective actions where necessary.
Prepare and maintain accurate site records, progress reports and handovers; report hazards, incidents and near misses promptly and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Coach and mentor team members, promote a positive and inclusive site culture and support training and development opportunities for staff.
Skills & Experience – What You’ll Bring
Proven experience supervising construction or civil infrastructure projects, with a strong background in earthworks, utilities, roading or drainage works.
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and method statements.
Relevant plant licences/endorsements and any industry tickets related to plant operation, confined space entry or traffic management.
Sound knowledge of site safety practices, environmental controls and quality management processes.
Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and manage subcontractors.
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Valid New Zealand driver’s licence and the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
